Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer behind the F1 film, has officially announced that a sequel is in the works following the film’s remarkable success at the box office. Since its debut in June 2025, the movie has generated over $630 million globally, sparking widespread speculation about the possibility of a follow-up.
Although discussions about a sequel had surfaced earlier, Bruckheimer recently confirmed the development during an event in Los Angeles, stating, “We’re working on a sequel.” He reflected on the lengthy process of bringing the original film to the screen, mentioning the challenges posed by strikes, yet expressed satisfaction with how the film resonated with viewers worldwide.
Centered around the character Sonny Hayes, portrayed by Brad Pitt, F1 depicts his return to the Formula 1 circuit as he races for the beleaguered APXGP team, managed by his former teammate, Rubén Cervantes, played by Javier Bardem. Alongside rookie driver Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris, Hayes aims for a victory in the season’s final nine races, facing the looming threat of team investors selling the franchise if they fall short.
The film was shot during actual F1 race weekends and features cameos from drivers of the 2023 and 2024 seasons, including notable figures such as Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc, Fernando Alonso, and George Russell. Additionally, seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton contributed to the film as an executive producer.
In November 2025, director Joseph Kosinski expressed enthusiasm for a sequel, sharing his interest in exploring the next chapter for both Sonny Hayes and the APXGP team. He remarked, “Based on the global reaction to this film, it’s clear that there’s a desire for more, and I would be delighted to return to this project, as we had an incredible time making the first one.”
