
A fresh docuseries focusing on four-time Formula 1 champion Max Verstappen, titledMax Verstappen – New Ground, has debuted on Viaplay.
This three-part series chronicles the Dutch driver’s endeavors as he establishes his own racing team, collaborating with sim racing competitor Chris Lulham to transition into real-world racing at the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa.
“For many years, I have partnered with Viaplay to depict the essence of racing—not solely the outcomes, but the effort, commitment, and passion that fuel it,” Verstappen remarked on his official platform.
He continued, “New Grounddelves into uncharted motorsport territories, emphasizing learning and gaining valuable experience along the way. It embodies the challenges and love for racing, and I am thrilled to share this journey with the audience of Viaplay.”
Trailer Insights
Verstappen unveiled the trailer on his official YouTube channel, which kicks off with his experiences in GT3 racing. “Once you have accomplished all your goals in Formula 1, you gain the freedom to explore other avenues,” the Red Bull Racing star narrated.
“Sim racing and actual racing are distinct realms, but if a sim racer demonstrates the necessary skills, transitioning to real cars is within reach. There’s an element of risk involved, yet I had faith in this possibility.”
Collaborative Success
Verstappen partnered with 22-year-old British sim racer Lulham, who has been affiliated with Verstappen’s Team Redline since 2021, to showcase that sim racers could successfully enter the world of real racing. The duo achieved victory during Verstappen’s inaugural GT3 race at the Nordschleife, part of the penultimate round of the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Series.
Release Schedule
The premiere episode of this three-part series launched on Viaplay on February 10, with the subsequent episodes scheduled for release on February 17 and February 24.
