Andrea Kimi Antonelli has fortunately emerged unscathed from a recent road incident, ensuring his participation in this week’s pre-season Formula 1 testing in Bahrain remains unaffected.
The accident occurred in Serravalle just prior to his scheduled trip to Bahrain, with reports indicating that Antonelli collided with a guardrail without involving any other vehicles.
Mercedes confirmed the event in an official communication, stating, “On Saturday evening, close to his residence in San Marino, Kimi was involved in a traffic accident. The police arrived at the location after Kimi made the call. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and although his car was damaged, he emerged completely unharmed.”
At the time of the incident, Antonelli was behind the wheel of a Mercedes AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collectors Edition,” a rare model limited to just 200 units.
Recently, prior to the Barcelona test last month, Mercedes had highlighted the delivery of this exclusive supercar to Antonelli, which boasts distinctive features such as hand-painted bodywork adorned with a Petronas livery and advanced technical specifications.
Notably, the vehicle is equipped with an aerodynamic configuration designed to minimize lift and improve cooling efficiency, powered by a robust 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine generating 612 horsepower.
The incident is not anticipated to hinder Antonelli’s scheduled activities for the Bahrain test, where he is set to operate the Mercedes W17 on the afternoon of the first day, followed by a morning session on the second day and another afternoon stint on the final day. His teammate George Russell will participate in the corresponding sessions for the team.
The initial Bahrain pre-season test commences tomorrow, paving the way for a second and concluding test at the same location from February 18 to 20.
