Cadillac Aims to Gain Respect from F1 Competitors in 2026

Cadillac wants to "earn the respect" of F1 rivals in 2026

Cadillac’s entry into Formula 1 is marked by a clear ambition to earn recognition from its more seasoned competitors, according to consultant Pat Symonds. As the team prepares for its inaugural season, it seeks to establish itself through performance rather than merely aiming for specific championship standings.

While the team’s exact position in the competitive hierarchy is yet to be determined, early indications suggest that Cadillac is not far from the mark. The team, led by principal Graeme Lowdon, recalls the struggles faced by his previous venture, Manor, which routinely battled the 107% rule; such challenges now seem a thing of the past.

Instead of focusing on quantifiable targets like race rankings or points, Cadillac is committed to building a reputable and respected presence in Formula 1 throughout 2026. This long-term vision allows the team to cultivate its aspirations gradually.

“Quantifying our goals is challenging,” remarked F1 veteran Pat Symonds after drivers Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez logged 107 laps on the opening day of testing in Bahrain. “However, it is crucial for us to earn the respect of other teams. That respect is important not only for our car but for our entire operation.”

Symonds expressed satisfaction with the positive feedback received from rival teams regarding Cadillac’s garage setup and car preparation during the initial tests in Barcelona. He hopes that as competitors analyze design elements through their spy photos, they will recognize some innovative features of Cadillac’s vehicle.

On another note, Symonds emphasized that observing the designs of rival cars in Barcelona boosted Cadillac’s confidence in its own design decisions. He noted, “We have incorporated many impressive components into our vehicle. There was a delightful diversity in details across the cars, which exceeded my expectations, confirming that we are on the right track.”

Symonds also promised a proactive approach to development during the season, revealing that the Ferrari-powered vehicle will undergo significant enhancements ahead of the Melbourne race. He stated, “We have a solid plan in place. Operating within the budget cap, we’ve outlined a dynamic development strategy that we believe will yield substantial changes by the time we get to Melbourne.”

With a commitment to continual improvement, he expressed confidence in the team’s ability to evolve its launch model effectively throughout 2026. “Fans can anticipate a noticeably different car in Melbourne and throughout the season, reflecting our aggressive development efforts,” he added.
