Serena Williams to Return to Wimbledon Singles After Receiving Wildcard

Serena Williams to make Wimbledon singles comeback after being handed wildcard

Serena Williams, the iconic American tennis player, is set to make a remarkable comeback to singles competition at this year’s Wimbledon, following the All England Club’s decision to grant her the final wildcard on Sunday.

The seven-time champion at Wimbledon, who boasts a total of 23 Grand Slam titles, had already secured her participation in the tournament after accepting a wildcard for doubles alongside her sister, Venus.

Wimbledon announced on their X account.

“This is not a drill. @serenawilliams will compete in the 2026 ladies’ singles at #Wimbledon as a wild card.”

Last week, however, Williams faced disappointment as she lost her second doubles match during her comeback at the German Open, where she partnered with Karolina Muchova from Czechia. The duo fell short against Erin Routliffe and Giuliana Olmos, losing 6-4, 6-4.

Previously, Williams and her partner Victoria Mboko had triumphed over Routliffe and Nicole Melichar-Martinez at the Queen’s Club tournament. Unfortunately, Mboko had to withdraw from their next match and the remainder of the grass-court season due to a torn medial collateral ligament.
