Jarell Quansah will miss two matches in the World Cup after receiving a red card during England’s last-16 triumph over Mexico on Sunday.
The defender was sent off following a VAR review of a sliding tackle on Jesus Gallardo, which FIFA has classified as serious foul play, resulting in a two-game suspension in line with Article 14 of their regulations.
England had considered appealing the decision surrounding Quansah’s dismissal, particularly given FIFA’s contentious choice to lift Folarin Balogun’s one-match suspension after the striker was sent off in the USA’s victory against Bosnia and Herzegovina, allowing him to play in Saturday’s quarter-final against Norway in Miami. However, Quansah’s absence will not only affect that match but also the potential semi-final against either Argentina or Switzerland, should England advance.
The team is currently facing a right-back dilemma, with Reece James still dealing with injury concerns. Ezri Konsa may be repositioned from center-back to fill the gap for the upcoming clash against Norway.
