Lewis Hamilton Expected to Shine in 2026, Says Former Colleague: ‘Back to His Peak’

Lewis Hamilton predicted to thrive in 2026 by former team-mate: "Back to his best"

In recent years, Lewis Hamilton has faced significant challenges, particularly as he struggled to harness the full potential of ground-effect Formula 1 vehicles after a disappointing conclusion to the hybrid era. Following a tough inaugural season with Ferrari in 2025, the introduction of new regulations is anticipated to rejuvenate the seven-time world champion.

Jenson Button, who previously raced alongside Hamilton, believes that the British driver will reclaim his previous form in his second year with the Scuderia, as he becomes more integrated into the development of the 2026 car.

Hamilton’s performance in 2025 left much to be desired when compared to his dominant years during the hybrid era. While Ferrari occasionally displayed competitiveness, Hamilton often found himself at a disadvantage, culminating in an 86-point deficit to teammate Charles Leclerc by the season’s conclusion.

“It was tough. I have to say, watching Lewis in 2025,” Button shared with Sky Sports F1. “We were teammates for three years. I understand how good he is. So it was really tough to see him struggle with the team, and you could see it in his face how much it was hurting.”

Button continued, emphasizing that it’s easy to overlook all that Hamilton has accomplished when one witnesses the evident frustration. He remains optimistic that the regulatory changes will facilitate a return to Hamilton’s exceptional form.

“With the new regulation changes, we will see Lewis Hamilton back to his best, I really do,” Button asserted. He noted that Hamilton’s involvement in the car’s design process will be crucial, fostering confidence in his ability to guide its development in a direction that suits him.

“We want to see Ferrari at the front, and we all want to see Lewis fighting at the front again,” Button concluded, underscoring the collective hope for a resurgence in Hamilton’s career.
