Egypt triumphs over New Zealand 3-1, taking charge of Group G

Egypt roar back from goal down to see off New Zealand and take control of Group G

Egypt celebrated their inaugural World Cup victory as they overcame New Zealand with a 3-1 scoreline, propelling themselves to the top of Group G and significantly enhancing their chances of advancing to the knockout rounds.

With Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush leading the charge, Egypt entered the match as the clear favorites, buoyed by an enthusiastic crowd at BC Place. However, a lapse in defense led to an early setback when New Zealand’s Finn Surman scored with a powerful header from Tim Payne’s corner kick in the 15th minute, quieting the sea of red supporters.

Egypt leveled the score in the 58th minute when Mostafa Ziko connected with a cross from Mohamed Hany, heading it into the net. Just nine minutes later, Ziko executed a swift one-two with Salah, culminating in a strong left-footed finish by the Egyptian captain. Trezeguet then sealed the victory with a brilliant header from Salah’s corner.

Following a 1-1 draw against Belgium in their opening match, Egypt now stands at the top of the group with four points from two matches. Conversely, New Zealand, who drew 2-2 with Iran in their first game, finds themselves at the bottom of the group with only one point.
