Fifa’s ‘snicko’ reader suggests there was noting untoward with Bellingham’s goal

Norway fans gathered in Oslo cannot bear to look during their team’s defeat to England and subsequent World Cup exit.

In a tense World Cup quarter-final match, Norway’s goalkeeper Ørjan Håskjold Nyland executed a goal-kick two minutes into stoppage time at the end of the first half. The kick traveled down the pitch, landing just within England’s half near the sideline, where Elliot Anderson seized the opportunity to advance.

Anderson’s Critical Interception

As the ball descended sharply towards Anderson, it raised suspicions that its flight path might have been altered mid-air.

Bellingham’s Equalizer

Anderson quickly passed the ball to Anthony Gordon, who then delivered it to Jude Bellingham. Demonstrating exceptional skill, Bellingham maneuvered into Norway’s penalty area and expertly slotted the ball past Nyland, equalizing for England just before halftime.

Nyland’s Protests

Following the goal, Norway expressed outrage, particularly Nyland, who confronted referee Clément Turpin, insisting that the ball had struck some overhead cable used for a robotic camera before falling to Anderson.

Norway’s coaching staff are clearly not happy with the nature of Bellingham’s goal.

Coaching Staff Shares Frustration

Norway’s coaching team also voiced their discontent regarding the goal, echoing Nyland’s claims about the cable interference. Manager Ståle Solbakken stated, “Many on the bench reacted immediately,”

Midfielder Sander Berge added his frustrations, saying, “I was not one of them, but many saw it. The ball fell down straight in front of the bench, so it did.”

FIFA’s Response

In response to the controversy, FIFA issued a statement dismissing claims of foul play in Nyland’s goal-kick. Their statement noted, “It’s ridiculous, this one with the wire. There are small margins and we know which way it went.”

Commenting on the situation, Thomas Tuchel remarked, “Before England’s goal … the sensor in the Connected Ball showed no peak in the ‘heartbeat of the ball’ when in the air, and therefore no evidence that the ball touched the overhead wire and changed the movement of the ball,”

Norway’s World Cup Exit

Despite the protests, the goal was upheld, and Bellingham secured another goal in extra time, sealing Norway’s exit from the World Cup.
