YouTuber Revives Pizza Ordering on Nintendo Wii with Homebrew Channel

YouTuber orders pizza via Nintendo Wii thanks to homebrew resurrection of the console's elusive food delivery channel

Once, the act of ordering food through the internet was a whimsical venture, devoid of the challenges posed by inflated platform fees and underappreciated delivery workers that we face today. In an era not too long ago, the Nintendo Wii facilitated Japanese users in ordering meals directly through their consoles. This feature, known as the Demae Channel, allowed access to a local restaurant menu but was discontinued in 2017, remaining exclusive to Japan—until now.

Recently, YouTuber Retro Game Attic showcased how he managed to place an order with his local Domino’s using the Food Channel, a homebrew revival of the Demae Channel that finally brings this unique pizza ordering capability to North America. Despite the somewhat blurry visuals on his standard definition CRT screen, the nostalgic experience unfolds slowly as he navigates the 2006 console to successfully receive a hot 14-inch hand-tossed pizza topped with extra cheese.

As Nintendo has decommissioned many of the official servers that supported the Wii, the Food Channel has emerged as part of an unofficial community project called Wii Link, which aims to restore much of the console’s online capabilities. Currently, this service is accessible only to users in the United States and Canada, and it exclusively allows orders from Domino’s.

While support for Just Eat has been in development since 2024, functionalities for Deliveroo have been discontinued. Presently, ordering from Domino’s requires payment upon delivery, a practical choice given the unofficial nature of this initiative, which avoids handling payment information—though users must still provide a delivery address.

The Food Channel integrates seamlessly with Domino’s online ordering system, offering real-time updates on pizza selections, pricing, and holiday hours of operation. Although the interface may not be the most refined, the experience is undoubtedly one of the most original available. As rising memory costs could prompt Nintendo to increase the price of the upcoming Switch 2, perhaps revisiting older gaming hardware is a worthwhile endeavor.

For now, I believe it’s time to dust off some old gaming equipment and wrestle with motion controls—it will all be worth it if it leads to enjoying a delicious pizza.
