Tottenham Hotspur has commenced negotiations with Liverpool regarding the potential acquisition of left-back Andy Robertson. The 31-year-old defender, whose contract at Anfield expires this summer, expressed uncertainty about his career direction just last week.

Robertson has only made four starts in the Premier League this season and is eager for consistent playing time leading up to the World Cup. According to reports, Spurs have reached out to Liverpool, but no definitive agreement has been established at this point.

Since joining Liverpool from Hull City for £8 million in 2017 under Jurgen Klopp’s management, Robertson has made an impressive 363 appearances for the club. His latest appearance was as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Burnley on January 17.

Prior to that match, Liverpool’s head coach Arne Slot acknowledged Robertson’s significance to the team and commended his professionalism in adapting to his reduced role following the arrival of Milos Kerkez from Hungary.

If Robertson departs, Kerkez would become the sole senior left-back available to Slot, although Liverpool might consider recalling Kostas Tsimikas from his loan at Roma. Meanwhile, Tottenham recently secured the signing of Brazilian left-back Souza and already has a solid lineup in that position.

Manager Thomas Frank has favored Destiny Udogie this season, with Djed Spence providing additional options. Ben Davies was another possibility, but the Welsh international suffered a broken ankle on Sunday, ruling him out for the remainder of the season.

Spurs’ interest in Robertson appears to be a strategy to infuse experience into their youthful squad, as currently, only the 32-year-old Davies surpasses the age of 30. Throughout his tenure at Liverpool, Robertson has garnered nine trophies, which include two Premier League titles and the prestigious Champions League.
