Sophie Turner Unveils Classic Lara Croft Look for Upcoming Series

Amazon MGM Studios A photo shows Sophie Turner as Lara Croft. She wears red-tinted sunglasses, her hair tied back. She wears a green vest top and tight, thigh-length shorts. One of her fingerless-gloved hands rests on a pistol in a thigh holster.

The initial glimpse of Sophie Turner in her anticipated portrayal of Lara Croft has been unveiled.

Turner was officially cast as the lead in Prime Video’s adaptation of Tomb Raider back in September, with the platform confirming that filming for the series is now underway.

An image showcasing the actress in the iconic green tank top and brown shorts, reminiscent of the character’s classic look from the original PlayStation games, has been released.

Previously, Sophie expressed that stepping into this role, once held by Oscar winners Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, presents her with “massive shoes to fill.”

Originating from Warwickshire, Sophie Turner gained widespread recognition as Sansa Stark in HBO’s acclaimed series Game of Thrones, later portraying Jean Grey in the X-Men franchise.

Star-Studded Cast and Creative Team

The upcoming Tomb Raider series will also feature a notable cast including Alien star Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs from The White Lotus, and Celia Imrie, known for her participation in Celebrity Traitors.

The script for this adaptation is penned by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the acclaimed writer behind Fleabag.

Based on the popular video game series that debuted in 1996, originally developed by Core Design in the UK, the franchise has a rich history.

Lara Croft emerged as a groundbreaking figure in gaming, becoming a global icon and gracing numerous magazine covers at a time when female protagonists were scarce.

The series underwent a reboot in 2013, offering a more realistic portrayal of Lara and delving deeper into her character development.

Expanding the Tomb Raider Universe

Tomb Raider joins a growing list of adaptations inspired by beloved video games.

Prime Video was behind the successful Fallout series, which recently launched its second season.

In addition, the streaming service announced that Ryan Hurst, known for his role in The Walking Dead, will take on the lead role of Kratos in an upcoming series based on the acclaimed PlayStation game God of War.

Adaptations like these have demonstrated their potential to attract gamers back to the original titles, and Crystal Dynamics, the current developer of Tomb Raider, revealed plans for two new games at last year’s Game Awards.

The first game is described as a “re-imagining” of Lara’s inaugural adventure, featuring updated controls and graphics, while the second will introduce a new narrative set in Northern India.
