Senegal clinched their second Africa Cup of Nations title by defeating Morocco, yet the match was marred by significant turmoil. The final took a dramatic turn when Senegal’s players temporarily left the field in protest over a disputed penalty awarded to the host nation during stoppage time, with the score still level.

Pape Gueye, a midfielder for Villarreal, netted the decisive goal in the fourth minute of extra time, marking the Lions’ second championship win in just four years.

The match’s climax was tainted by late-game disputes. Senegal’s head coach, Pape Thiaw, attempted to pull his squad from the pitch after a controversial decision led to a penalty for Morocco in the 98th minute. This penalty was awarded when Senegalese defender El Hadji Malick Diouf fouled Brahim Diaz.
