Mithril in Hytale: A Mining Challenge Awaits

Hytale's elusive end-game ore, mithril, 'won't be as simple to mine as the others'

The early access version of Hytale has surprised many gamers with its quality, even as developers at Hypixel caution about its limitations. However, one significant drawback stands out: the game’s progression feels quite linear, revolving around traversing various zones to discover new types of ore, including copper, iron, cobalt, adamantite, and mithril.

Many players might assume that the ultimate goal is to locate mithril ore, but currently, this is a misconception. Mithril remains unavailable for mining at this stage, despite its necessity for several in-game recipes.

The silver lining is that once mithril is introduced, it promises to be more than just another block to smash—likely in the forthcoming fifth zone. Simon Collins-Laflamme, the founder of Hypixel, hinted at this by stating, “We have exciting plans for Mithril… let’s say it won’t be as straightforward to mine as the other ores.”

The specifics of these plans are still under wraps, adding to a growing list of tasks the development team needs to address. Collins-Laflamme recently resumed work on the project just two months ago and quickly pieced together the early access version. Despite this, the pace of updates and new features has been rapid, including the recently added option to conceal armor following strong community feedback.

With Collins-Laflamme’s suggestion, there is hope that mining mithril will involve more elaborate techniques. I’m enthusiastic about enhancing the mining experience beyond mere strikes with a pickaxe, particularly since higher-tier tools mainly boost durability rather than unlocking new resources, unlike in Minecraft, where upgraded pickaxes permit the mining of different materials. This is one reason why I consider Lucky Mining one of the standout mods for Hytale, as it introduces an engaging strategy into ore extraction.

While this is speculative, there’s a possibility that mithril may introduce specialized mining tools and machinery. Players enjoy building factories in these types of games, myself included, and the addition of mithril (along with the potential fifth zone) could provide a fantastic chance to incorporate more intricate mechanisms to explore.
