Local Man Embarks on 50-Hour Charity Gaming Challenge

A local resident is gearing up for an ambitious 50-hour gaming marathon aimed at raising money for a hospice that provided care to a dear friend.

Rick Holloway, hailing from Worcester, has successfully completed eight similar fundraising events over the past five years, all dedicated to the memory of Mike Grubb. His efforts have generated over £4,300 for St Richard’s Hospice.

This latest endeavor will see him engage in a non-stop session of Championship Manager for 50 hours beginning on 10:00 GMT on April 3, concluding at noon on April 5.

“It holds significant meaning for me to raise funds for the hospice, as it allows me to cherish the memories of my close friend,” Holloway expressed.

He further remarked, “I feel a sense of responsibility to support such a valuable charity through an activity I am passionate about.”

Interestingly, Holloway noted that time tends to fly by during these challenges, as he becomes deeply engrossed in the pursuit of success with each team. “Thanks to my wife Karen, I have a steady supply of coffee and am supported by many who cheer me on,” he added.

Upcoming Challenge with a Local Team

In his next challenge, Holloway will assume the role of manager for Pershore Town, a non-league side in Worcestershire, following a vote held on social media platform X.

“It’s quite outrageous, isn’t it? But it’s incredibly enjoyable,” remarked Jason Neville, the chairman of the club. “What truly matters is the funds he is raising for St Richard’s Hospice.”

Neville continued, “Can you envision him leading humble Pershore Town to the Premier League or guiding them through an FA Cup run? That would be fantastic.”

“If Rick manages to take us to the Premier League, I would be over the moon,” he concluded.

In a show of support, Pershore Town announced it would offer four complimentary tickets to its final home match and a signed shirt to donors contributing to Holloway’s fundraising campaign.
