In a moment of panic, rather than mixing it with other components to craft a delightful dish, I mistakenly click on the mat, causing it to roll up and then unfurl, resulting in a disastrous dish that resembles a pile of waste. My only chance lies in hoping the customer I unlocked with the Poop Tasty upgrade materializes, as that particular goblin has a peculiar fondness for such creations.

Welcome to Goblin Sushi, a cooking simulation game where players step into the shoes of a goblin chef catering to a line of famished dungeon residents. The ingredients at your disposal include rice, seaweed, an assortment of fish, and various cave-dwelling creatures. It seems salmon nigiri is making a return to the menu!

This game operates on a straightforward item-combination premise, akin to Cook, Serve, Delicious, but here you can use a mouse instead of a keyboard. The challenge lies in managing the continuous flow of customers who impatiently queue up, demanding California rolls as if they were characters straight from a Monster Manual. Beyond just serving food, you also have to clean their plates to make room for new patrons. If you take too long or allow unsightly piles of refuse to drift past on the conveyor, expect disgruntled customers who might reduce their tips.

Those tips are crucial since your goblin landlord makes regular appearances, demanding that you present your rent as if it’s a prized dish. This mechanic is what the indie studio Old Cake Factory refers to as “carpal tunnel gameplay.” Before long, you’ll find yourself overwhelmed with an insatiable crowd, especially when the two-headed customers show up.

While Goblin Sushi is a relatively simple cooking simulation, it is enhanced by its charming yet grotesque visuals. The clientele includes adorable elderly goblin grandmothers accompanied by their tiny dogs, alongside towering dogmen carrying petite goblin grandmas. It’s quite the sight! The game is set to enter early access on February 9, and eager players can currently try out a demo available on Steam.
