Anthony Joshua's driver charged over Nigeria crash that killed two

The driver of boxer Anthony Joshua has been formally charged following a tragic accident in Nigeria, which resulted in the deaths of two members of his team and left Joshua injured, according to police reports.

Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, aged 46, faced charges at the Sagamu Magistrates’ Court on Friday. Authorities indicated that the allegations include causing death through dangerous driving.

On Monday, Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and strength coach, Sina Ghami, lost their lives when the vehicle they were in collided with a stationary truck on a busy highway in Ogun state, located near Lagos.

The former heavyweight boxing champion sustained injuries in the incident and was hospitalized, but he was released on Wednesday.

Prosecutors filed four charges against Kayode: causing death by dangerous driving, reckless and negligent behavior, driving without due care, and operating a vehicle without a valid license, as confirmed by police sources.

Kayode was granted bail set at 5,000,000 Naira (approximately £2,578) while awaiting the fulfillment of his bail conditions.

The legal proceedings have been postponed until January 20.

Joshua, 36, was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that crashed into a parked truck on the bustling Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Monday.

Tragically, both Ghami and Ayodele were declared dead at the scene, while Joshua was seen being assisted from the wreckage.
