Crystal Palace’s £50 Million Pursuit of Strand Larsen Uncertain

Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen celebrates scoring in the Premier League

The future of Crystal Palace’s £50 million transfer bid for Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen is now uncertain, as the club has indicated a willingness to withdraw from negotiations.

Initially, both Premier League teams had come to an agreement in principle regarding the transfer of the 25-year-old forward to Selhurst Park. However, this arrangement was contingent upon Palace submitting a formal written offer that Wolves would accept.

Despite expectations for a proposal to be submitted on Thursday, the anticipated offer has not yet materialized. Reports suggest that Wolves have been informed by Palace of their decision to no longer pursue the transaction.

It remains unclear whether this latest development serves as a strategic negotiation tactic aimed at securing a reduced transfer fee.

Should the move for Strand Larsen collapse, it may influence the expected departure of Jean-Philippe Mateta from Selhurst Park before the impending transfer deadline on Monday.

The 28-year-old French forward has expressed his desire to leave the club this month, and Palace appears increasingly amenable to allowing his exit.

Nottingham Forest had previously seen a £35 million bid for Mateta turned down by Palace and are expected to intensify their efforts to secure the striker in the coming days. Other clubs, including Juventus and AC Milan, have also shown significant interest in acquiring him.

While Mateta aims to compete in the Champions League, he is also open to a transfer to Nottingham’s City Ground.

Palace is keen on finding a replacement before permitting Mateta’s departure and is preparing to finalize a loan deal for versatile attacker Evann Guessand from Aston Villa.

Nonetheless, it remains uncertain whether the Eagles prioritize acquiring a recognized center-forward before allowing Mateta to leave.

In other news, Nottingham Forest has made a £20 million bid for Brighton midfielder Yasin Ayari, although this offer is likely to be rejected.
