Community-Driven Character Designs Unveiled in Upcoming Dead by Daylight Chapter with Voting Now Open

The next Dead by Daylight chapter will feature character designs selected by the community, and voting is already open

This week has marked a significant moment for player participation in competitive gaming, particularly within titles featuring the word ‘dead.’ On Thursday, Deadlock reintroduced its in-game voting mechanism, allowing players to determine which of the six upcoming heroes will debut first. The following day, Dead by Daylight launched its own voting initiative, enabling fans to choose the visual design of the next killer and survivor.

Players can cast their votes directly on the game’s official website, where an eerie tome, seemingly crafted from flesh, showcases a variety of artistic concepts. Four distinct potential designs for the survivor are presented, each featuring either heterochromia or a solitary blind eye. All the characters exhibit varying levels of scars and weathered features, accompanied by intriguing taglines that appear when the images are expanded: ‘Often underestimated, your unique insights provided an advantage in the wasteland,’ one tagline states.

The new survivor is described in broad terms as ‘a spiritual scientist’ and ‘a divine investigator from a fallen world.’ While it remains uncertain how their theological knowledge will aid them in confronting formidable foes like Chucky or the animatronics from Five Nights at Freddy’s, it’s an interesting premise nonetheless.

True to the tradition of Dead by Daylight, the killer designs are particularly striking. The aesthetic conveys a sense of a tyrannical angel or deity intent on ‘delivering your ultimate punishments.’ Among the three proposed designs are a chilling interpretation of a winged angel adorned with a halo and spiky appendages, another variant featuring a blindfold, and what I consider the standout option: a visage of a screaming face encased in a black mist, complemented by enormous floating hands.

Regardless of the eventual choice, it’s refreshing to witness an imaginative killer-survivor pairing that draws inspiration from original ideas rather than existing franchises like Netflix series or Assassin’s Creed. While I hesitate to sound pessimistic, it becomes increasingly challenging to recall an era when Dead by Daylight was solely populated by its unique characters, rather than resembling a darker iteration of Fortnite.
