Alcaraz Triumphs Over Djokovic, Becomes Youngest Player to Achieve Career Grand Slam

Carlos Alcaraz sticks out his tongue in celebration during the 2026 Australian Open final

Carlos Alcaraz has etched his name into tennis history by winning a thrilling final at the Australian Open, thus becoming the youngest male player to achieve a complete career Grand Slam, simultaneously thwarting Novak Djokovic’s quest for a 25th major title.

After securing a hard-fought victory with a scoreline of 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 in Melbourne, the 22-year-old Alcaraz collapsed in celebration on the court.

Despite his own disappointment, Djokovic displayed remarkable sportsmanship by crossing the net to embrace Alcaraz, acknowledging the significance of this historic moment.

However, Djokovic is acutely aware that his chances to affirm his status as the greatest player ever may be dwindling.

Initially, the 38-year-old Djokovic leveraged his experience to take control of the match, leaving the world number one Alcaraz struggling to find his form.

Yet, Alcaraz gradually regained his footing from the baseline and outlasted the Serbian fourth seed, marking his seventh career Grand Slam title.

With this victory, Alcaraz joins an elite group of only nine men who have won all four Grand Slam tournaments: the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, and US Open.

Djokovic’s pursuit of a standalone 25th major title continues, as Alcaraz’s triumph means he remains tied with Australia’s Margaret Court, who was present at Rod Laver Arena during the final.

In recent years, both Alcaraz and Italy’s Jannik Sinner have emerged as significant players in men’s tennis, dominating the sport.

Alcaraz’s first win on the hard courts of Melbourne indicates that the two have collectively secured the last nine major championships between them.

“The work you have been doing is historic – legendary,” Djokovic remarked to Alcaraz during his runner-up speech.

Smiling, he added, “You’re still young, so I’m certain we will cross paths many more times in the future.”

More updates are expected to follow.
