Anthony Joshua Released from Hospital Following Car Accident in Nigeria

Joshua discharged from hospital after Nigeria car crash

British heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has been released from a Nigerian hospital just days after a tragic car accident claimed the lives of two of his close friends.

The former world champion has been cleared to continue his recovery at home, according to a joint announcement from Ogun and Lagos state officials, who noted that he is “heavy hearted” due to the loss of his companions.

The incident occurred on a major expressway in Ogun State, near Lagos, when the 36-year-old was a passenger in a Lexus SUV that collided with a parked truck on Monday.

Among the deceased were Joshua’s close associates and team members, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele.

After his hospital discharge on Wednesday, Joshua paid a visit to the funeral home where the preparations for repatriating his friends’ bodies were taking place, as stated in the official release.

Eddie Hearn, who has been Joshua’s promoter since he turned professional post his gold medal win at the 2012 Olympics, also honored the memories of Joshua’s friends.

“Rest in peace Latz and Sina,” Hearn shared on Instagram. “Your spirit and loyalty, among many cherished traits, will be profoundly missed. I am praying for strength and guidance for their families, friends, and, of course, AJ during this incredibly challenging time.”

In a conversation on Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Ogun State police, Oluseyi Babaseyi, stated that “investigations are still ongoing” and described the inquiry as “still discreet.”

Ghami served as Joshua’s dedicated sport and exercise rehabilitation coach for over a decade, illustrating the depth of their professional and personal bond.
